Introduction to Eco-printing

with Stephanie Shroyer

$175

March 23, 10:00am - 4:00pm

HCAF members use discount code Mem120 for a $25 discount.

Artist Stephanie Shroyer will introduce you to the basic process of bundling and steaming prepared surfaces of a t-shirt, silk scarf and watercolor paper with leaves and flowers found in your yard and garden, allowing the pigment of them to bond together leaving a lasting impression! We will work with both cellulose /cotton and protein fibers/silk. And discuss the difference in preparation for each.

Not all leaves work for this process. A list of good “printers will be provided once registered so students can begin collecting and storing material to use. Instructions on how to preserve them will be included. We will reconstitute them in warm water before using them.

The artist will bring a host of materials to work with as well.

We will learn how to use tannins, and metal salts to mordant the materials to alter the outcome and try using dye blankets to add color from natural dyes.

$35 material fee paid to instructor at the time of class.

This will cover the cost of the T-shirt, the silk scarf, the watercolor, paper, and mordants and dyes. And other disposable supplies.
