Monoprinting on a Gel Plate has been around for hundreds of years. In this present day, the process has taken on as a new art form that is addicting, simple, and fun! A mono-print on a gel plate is a single impression of an image made from a block or soft plate that can be manipulated and layered. Rather than printing multiple copies of a single image, only one unique impression is produced, and the remnants can be used again by applying different layers that complement the first impression.

Each painting is a puzzle. There are techniques for solving the different types of puzzles, such as crossword puzzles and word searches. There are also techniques for solving painting puzzles.

The workshop will begin with a demonstration. I will use the demonstration to introduce the principles and techniques I use in my paintings. On the following days of the workshop, I give short presentations to illustrate additional painting principles and techniques. Over the years, the message I hear back from past students is they learned a great deal and many still refer to the notes they took from that initial workshop experience.

Discover Australian Aboriginal Art and begin to create a unique 14” x 16” piece of art during this workshop. Select one of three different animals; turtle, lizard (or newt), or frog. (Homemade stencils will be available or bring your own reference) Learn about the different symbols that the aboriginals used along with their colors and patterns and apply what you learn.
